Male Circumcision – Myths and Facts

Male circumcision is the removal of foreskin from penis. Around the world the practice of it is based on religious and social beliefs. It is practiced in major religions around the world; prominent among them are Islam and Christianity. Apart from religious it is also a regional practice in many parts of Asia, Africa and America.

According to WHO estimate, around the world 30% of the males are circumcised. In Middle Eastern countries like Israel, circumcision is based on religious belief. In English speaking countries like US, UK, Canada circumcision is based on the principal of personal health and hygiene. It is believed that foreskin can store germs, so it can cause diseases.

Effect of male circumcision
This is a widely debated topic. There are claims and counter claims on the positive and negative aspects of circumcision. According to some studies possibility of sexual abnormality is less in circumcised male. Also it may result in the increase in the size of penis. It can result in the increase in sensitivity of penis and reduces the time in attaining orgasm. On the other hand some studies suggest that, circumcision destroys delicate receptors on the penis and thus results in decrease in sexual appetite.

However there is no concrete scientific evidence to support any of these claims.

Male circumcision and STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases)
oHIV (Human Immunodeficiency Syndrome) – Many studies are launched to understand the relation between HIV and circumcision. All these studies show varied results. For scientific proof studies were conducted in some African countries. All these trials concluded that risk of HIV infection in circumcised male is half than that of uncircumcised male. Due to these findings WHO makes a statement that male circumcision along with other methods, is an effective way of HIV prevention.

In case of gays there is no evidence to support this claim as little research has been done. Again there are also some voices that challenges these results and claims that the strategy of HIV prevention through male circumcision is wrong.

oPenile Cancer – American Cancer Society has clearly stated that male circumcision is not an effective way to counter penile cancer. However some studies also suggest that male circumcision can only prevent penile cancer if performed on a new born male. After that it does not help. Research also suggests that probability of penile cancer is more in non circumcised male than in circumcised male.

oUrinary Tract Infection – Urinary Tract Infection is caused due to bacteria. Urine is generally free from microorganisms. Infection occurs when bacteria from some other part of the body somehow stick to Urethra and then grows in number. If it is not cured in the initial phase, it can reach up to kidney. Some studies have shown that male circumcision can decrease the chances of urinary tract infection. It must be noted that circumcision can help only those individuals who have a history of repeated urinary tract infections. Studies also conclude that circumcision can not be used as the only method to prevent urinary tract infections.

Circumcision and Your Baby Boy

So you just found out that you are having a baby boy, Congratulations! So now comes the decision to have your baby circumcised, or to not. In today’s society it is more likely then not to have a circumcision, but some parents choose not to do this. Here are some reasons why your child should get circumcised.

Well first if you are Jewish then it is required by your religion that you circumcise your baby boy. This is the oldest practiced medical procedure, dating back to biblical times. Circumcision was used to show peoples covenant to God. Well now a days most everybody circumcises there babies not for religious purposes but because well it is a lot cleaner then being uncircumcised.

Circumcision reduces the risk of infections, or other problems such as circumcision later on in life.

For appearance purposes, parents want there son to look like other peoples kids, they don’t want there child to be different.

Easier to keep clean, being uncircumcised can actually be harder to keep clean causing once again infection.

You can have your doctor circumcise your baby in the hospital or wait until baby is home from the hospital and have an ritual circumciser come to your house and do the procedure there.

Here are some reasons why parents choose not to circumcise there baby:

Parents are concerned about the pain, there is most likely some pain that goes along with circumcision but doctors can give baby something for the pain.

There is less risk of diaper rash on the penis because the foreskin protects from this

Some parents fear infection, but don’t realize they might fear that and have to deal with that without circumcision.

Some parents want there child to decide this when they are old enough to make this decision on there own.

Whatever you choose it is your choice, and one you can make when in the hospital or before your baby is born. I guess some people have to make a decision some people just know right away.

The Downside Of Male Circumcision – What Do You Lose When You Face The Knife?

The foreskin is a complex organ with a lot of similarities to the eyelid due to its two layer structure. Scientists have now revealed the function and structure of these skin that sheaths the penis after a long and detailed study. The practice of male circumcision has been blown out of proportion. Circumcision is considered to be in vogue and these misconception has received a lot of backing from the medical field. The complete removal of the foreskin ought to be viewed as a male genital mutilation. Many people are yet to realize what they are losing through circumcision. The benefits of circumcision have been trumpeted so much and for many years without giving due consideration to the aftermath of these surgery. Surgery in medical terms is the actual removal of a diseased or unwanted part of the body. But the foreskin is a vital organ just like an appendix is important.

The foreskin is a delicate organ designed to offer protection to the penis head from constant abrasion and possible infection. It forms half of all the penile skin and folds itself around the penis. These lubricants go a step further and protect the glans for any form of infection and from constant friction and abrasion. Due to the sheathed nature of the glans in a moist environment, sensitivity is retained in its pure form. When it comes to sex the skin fold called the foreskin glides along the shaft of the penis. The movement provides stimulation and lubrication. During circumcision all these functions and benefits are lost. Beware of male circumcision. It robs a man vital elements from his manhood. Circumcision only serves to deny him his natural rights.

Male circumcision is a health risk as a recent study shows. The journal of the American Medical Association which published the study shows that circumcision actually puts a man at an awkward health situation. Much as male circumcision alleviates the possibilities of HIV and syphilis infection the health risks are still higher. Circumcised men stand a higher chance of infection from herpes, chlamydia and hepatitis. Whoever announced to the world that male circumcision can save a man from disease infection ought to be prosecuted. It is misleading to tell the public that circumcision is a form of immunization. It makes the public to behave in inappropriate manner with the notion that they are safe. Beware of circumcision because it solves a small problem but creates a bigger one.

Circumcised men do not realize what they are losing in terms of sexual pleasure. Male circumcision removes all the erogenous tissue. The foreskin has numerous nerve endings which make sex to be so exciting and pleasurable. The glans peels itself off the top most sensitive skin during the healing process. An uncircumcised man enjoys optimum sexual pleasure with his partner. The foreskin is so erogenous you will regret why you lost it. The gliding of the foreskin along the penile shaft during sex gives a man unprecedented sexual pleasure. It is pleasure that a circumcised man can only dream of hence beware of male circumcision.
